It's not a real condition. But the problem is.
I tell friends I have "commotionitus." It's my word for hating loud, chaotic environments. Restaurants where you can't hear the person across from you. Action movies mixed way too loud. Sirens, alarms, sudden anything.
The condition isn't real, but that doesn't make the feeling any less so.
Gina is my dog. She's sensitive. Every doorbell, gunshot, or siren that comes through the TV triggers unnecessary stress. Movie night becomes a game of hovering over the remote, trying to mute before the next loud moment.
And it's not just us. Friends have told me about cats bolting off the couch at thunder sounds, partners who can't handle chewing noises, roommates who flinch at sirens.
Turns out a lot of people have this problem.
One day I asked a simple question: "Is there an app that can remove specific sounds from a movie?"
The answer was no. Not on any streaming platform, not in any app store, not anywhere.
I don't have a CS degree. I'm building this with AI tools and the belief that the thing should exist.
2Loud is a Chrome extension that listens to what you're streaming and lowers the volume on sounds you choose — doorbells, gunshots, screams, barking. It runs entirely in your browser. No data leaves your machine.
It's early. It's scrappy. It's being tested by friends. But I think it might help.
